Varjo, Campfire, and Microsoft jointly launched an interoperability layer based on OpenXR 1.1 that synchronizes avatars, shared annotations, and physics interactions across Apple Vision, Meta Quest, and Magic Leap devices.
The announcement includes a trust framework so enterprises can enforce identity policies regardless of which headset employees bring to meetings. Identity providers like Okta and Azure AD now support device posture attestation to verify firmware before granting access.
Security and data residency
Clients can choose regional data residency zones for persistent spatial files. Campfire added automated retention policies that purge volumetric recordings after a configurable number of days, helping teams comply with privacy mandates.
Analysts say the collaboration could accelerate XR adoption in design, healthcare, and oil and gas where cross-company coordination is critical. Early pilots involve digital twin walkthroughs of energy facilities with contractors joining from different headset ecosystems.
Roadmap for 2026
The consortium is working on standardized haptic feedback mappings and eye-tracking privacy standards. Expect more tooling for CAD import automation and compliance-ready audit trails before Q2 2026.
